About this project |
This house is a small vacation home designed with deep respect for its natural and cultural context. With a built area of approximately 75 square meters, the project minimizes ground disturbance while preserving existing trees, green spaces, and more than 70% permeable landscape across the site.
The design is inspired by the concept of Engawa—a traditional Japanese spatial element that exists between inside and outside. In this project, transitional spaces such as shaded terraces and semi-outdoor areas act as buffers between architecture and nature, allowing daily life to unfold gently alongside light, wind, greenery, and water.
Beyond form, the project explores local wisdom in living with seasonal flooding and tidal water conditions—an essential part of Bang Krachao’s ecology. The architecture remains lightweight, adaptable, and closely connected to the landscape rather than resisting it.
This house does not seek to dominate its site, but to coexist with it—where architecture becomes a quiet mediator between people, nature, and place.
For us, the project reflects our belief that meaningful architecture begins with understanding context, and designing with what already exists.
