About this project |
KUMI is a Mediterranean-style restaurant located on Soi Sathorn 10. The project is a renovation and interior design development aimed at transforming the existing space into a warm, welcoming environment that reflects the owner’s personality and lifestyle.
The name “KUMI” means “ten” in Swahili, referencing the restaurant’s location on Sathorn Soi 10. Inspired by the owner’s friendly and easy-going character—along with a love for travel and cultural exploration—the design concept incorporates typography from multiple languages to express openness and inclusivity.
A key feature of the project is the signature backdrop wall, where the word “KUMI” and the meaning “ten” are presented in various languages. In Swahili, KUMI translates directly to “ten,” while in other languages it carries diverse meanings—such as “cool honey” in Chinese, “draw” in Japanese, “mark” in Myanmar, and “bubble” in Malayalam—symbolizing cultural diversity and dialogue. This typographic layer becomes both a visual identity element and a subtle invitation to guests from different backgrounds.
As a Mediterranean restaurant focused on fresh and health-conscious cuisine, the interior atmosphere is designed to feel light, calm, and natural. Material selection, lighting, and spatial flow support a relaxed dining experience, allowing food presentation and menu storytelling to become central to the overall mood.
KUMI is not only a place to dine, but a space where culture, wellness, and hospitality quietly intersect.
